The Outcrops play music with heart. They have dug their roots deep into blues, funk, R & B, soul, folk, country and jazz - all the elements that help make up a great American Rock & Roll band. Their original music stems from the same soulful soil. Songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Cassidy Rain and lead guitarist Bryan Schroder started the band in 2016 when they discovered their joint passion for the Rock Blues genre. They began to jam songs from bands like the Allman Brothers, The Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton, BB King & Buddy Guy. The connection they had to each other and the music was undeniable. As they built the sound that would eventually define “The Outcrops” they added Samual “Jazz” Goldstein on drums and Jason Casanovas on bass. This rhythm section provided both the funky feel and solid foundation that would make up what would become a tasteful and gritty blues infused rock group. The Outcrops are a great example of a band that is greater than the sum of its parts. Relatable Musicians: Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Allman Brothers, The Band, Derek & the Dominos, Buddy Guy and Bonnie Raitt. (on the Green)

Something magical has arrived at the Thomas Sweet Chocolate window this holiday season.
Thomas Sweet Chocolate is proud to welcome their official Holiday Village window display this holiday season! Designed by lighting designer and employee of Thomas Sweet Cameron Filepas, families far and from will be able to indulge in the beauty of this stunning village from November 27th-January 6th. This is surely something you do not want to miss.
About the Village (How it started)
Ever since I can remember I've been fascinated with lights. The holidays were among my favorite time of year and the shimmering beauty of the season always brought me such joy. I was mesmerized with any miniature villages I would see during the season.
At twelve years old I began collecting village pieces and creating displays on detailed platforms that I built myself. I set them up in my home each year for my family to enjoy. Annually my family attends all sorts of holiday light shows, including the annual Princeton Tree Lighting Ceremony as a way to get us into the holiday spirit! Almost all of my ideas within each village came from the holiday traditions my family had created.
Given what is currently going on in our world , I was concerned that it would affect holiday cheer. More so than ever, I wanted to create a visual that brought back magic to the holidays; a miniature village that all can admire and feel like they are in the middle of a winter wonderland. I am thrilled to announce this is the first time any of my villages will be shown to the public.
About the artist:
Cameron Filepas is a NJ based lighting designer for theatre, dance, and opera. During college he won the 2019 Kennedy Center American Theatre Festival Best Lighting Design Award for his design of Mad Forest at the L. Howard Fox Theatre. Since graduating with a BFA in lighting design from Montclair State University in 2019, Cameron has designed multiple productions in NJ and assisted designers throughout the Northeast. When not designing Cameron is an overhire employee of McCarter Theatre, New Brunswick PAC, and The State Theater. Please visit his website cameronfilepasdesign.com to learn more about his work!
Why Thomas Sweet?
I began working at the Ice Cream store on Nassau Street after the summer I graduated from college as a part time job. I also was focusing on building contacts for my career as a professional lighting designer for theatre. When the pandemic hit, my entire industry shut down and remains so to this day. Thomas Sweet was quite literally there for me in the hardest of times while I could no longer work in theatre. Now working almost full time at the business, I am beyond thankful for the opportunities Thomas Sweet has given me throughout the last several months. Since 1979 Thomas Sweet has been among one of Princeton's most favored ice cream and chocolate stores. I thought the window of the chocolate shop would be the perfect location to display my village this year.

SUKKAH VILLAGE PRINCETON
The Sukkah Village 2021 exhibit and competition, taking place in Princeton New Jersey, offers participants the chance to present innovative and original designs for a Sukkah that can be built by an individual, using materials and building methods that are sustainable and easily available. NJ AIA Architecture firms and Architects, along with selected competition winners, will build their Sukkahs at the Sukkah Village event taking place in September 2021 in Princeton NJ.
At the end of Sukkot, each built Sukkah will be auctioned off to raise money for for an assigned charity. Sukkahs will be displayed at various sites around Princeton, with the main Sukkah Village being featured at The Jewish Center of Princeton.
WHAT IS A SUKKAH
Biblical in origin, the Sukkah is an impermanent, elemental shelter, erected for one week each October, in which it is customary to share meals, sleep, entertain and celebrate. A Sukkah is a hut-like structure that the Jews lived in during the 40 years of travel through the wilderness after the exodus from Egypt. As a temporary dwelling, the Sukkah also represents the fact that all existence is fragile, and Sukkot is a time to appreciate the shelter of our homes and our bodies.
WHAT IS SUKKOT
Sukkot is a week-long Jewish holiday that is held in the autumn beginning on the 15th day of the seventh month, Tishri (Lunar Calendar). Sukkot celebrates the gathering of the harvest as well as commemorates the sheltering of the Israelites in the wilderness. The goal is to spend as much time as possible in the Sukkah, at the very minimum eating all meals in the sukkah—particularly the festive meals on the first two nights of the holiday, when we must eat at least an olive-sized piece of bread or mezonot (grain-based food) in the sukkah. Some people even sleep in the sukkah. You are encouraged to invite friends and family to spend time with you in the sukkah. It is considered a Mitzvah (good deed) to have guests join you in your Sukkah. Today we are confronted with many issues and themes that Sukkot addresses such as homelessness, hunger, refugees, sustainability, and affordable housing.

The Nigerian-Cameroonian artist Samuel Fosso (b. 1962) is arguably one of the most compelling photographers working in the genre of self-portraiture today. Samuel Fosso: Affirmative Acts is the first museum survey of the artist’s work in the United States. The exhibition showcases Fosso’s self-portraits, in which the artist assumes various characters and gender roles to highlight the connections between identity, consumption, and global commerce. Through make up and dress, Fosso references 1970s High-life music and popular culture; he transforms into major figures from Africa and the diaspora; he reflects on Africa’s complicated encounters with European colonialism, Christianity, and a resurgent China; and he engages in vigorous self-analysis.
In Fosso’s hands, self-portraiture becomes at once a form of masking, revelation, and self-affirmation, a theatrical event and embodiment of the individual and the body politic, and a performance of social commentary.
Samuel Fosso: Affirmative Acts is curated by Princeton University Professor Chika Okeke-Agulu with Princeton students Silma Berrada, Class of 2022; Lawrence Chamunorwa, graduate student; Maia Julis, Class of 2023; and Iheanyi Onwuegbucha, graduate student.
Organized by the Princeton University Art Museum in collaboration with The Walther Collection.

"In Japanese culture, the crane is a symbol of longevity and peace. Senbazuru (a thousand cranes) is a well-known tradition that promises to grant a wish to anyone who folds 1000 cranes. The Princeton Paper Crane Project was developed as a symbol of hope in the middle of a global pandemic, amid protests against racial inequality, economic hardship, and uncertainty around every corner.
The idea was to ask the community to send in paper cranes that they could personalize with images, messages, names of love ones, etc., so we could make a collective, communal wish. We received almost 18,000 cranes that were displayed at the Arts Council of Princeton. We are still grappling with the same uncertainties months later. We hope that these beautiful cranes, now moved to 69 PSW in the heart of Princeton, can continue to evoke this celebration of love, eternal strength, and resiliency of the human spirit to all who walk by."
