Ancient origins with the first evidence dating back to 1094, the Venice Carnival, revived in 1979 after almost two centuries of absence, still preserves its old traditions, honoring a centuries-old history. The Venetian Carnival still means theater, delicious traditional foods, extraordinary masks, costumes, and of course wine.
In Venice, a glass of wine is called Ombra (shade) deriving from the times when one enjoyed a glass of wine standing in the shade of San Marco’s bell tower.
